Can you ever imagine a world without a language? It would be like talking to an alien every time you’d try to communicate with another person. No language means no common base of thoughts and no common sense. Everybody would be an actor of his own stage and what a play that would be! So now you see the importance of the twenty six letters that have connected this world for so long. They are like the spells of magicians. Every time you arrange them in different order, they create a new word and the world finds a new route to connect. Your accent may be different, your slang may be different but all that is within the boundary of these letters. So how interesting do you think the journey would be when we all go back to the day it all began?

Well, our trip goes through an interesting iOS app called Hooked on Words that has been developed by Plasmaworks LLC. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS 5.0 or any later version of the OS. This app has also been optimized for iPhone 5.

Hooked on Words is an app full of fun and lots of tricky puzzles.  There are 5 segments of the game out of which four are single player. Your main aim is always to create as many words as possible within a time frame or it depends upon the segment you’re playing in. For example, in the Standard Mode you have no time limit and therefore you can play with peace. This segment is mainly to build up your stamina for thinking fast. Then the next segment has a time limit of 2 minutes and therefore you have to be quick. But after a time, only quickness doesn’t matter and your words must be bigger in size as they earn you more points comparatively. Other times, you get a static play board where no tiles will change and time limit is same. In the multiplayer mode, you can play against other players which can be your friends as well. So challenge them and post your scores on Facebook (if you manage to beat them).

At first, you might be bursting out of ideas watching so many words and you can go in any direction. But believe me, it’s not that easy. In fact, there are so many options that you get confused of which way to proceed. The bigger the word, the more are the possible directions and more difficult it becomes to find it. But still, I must confess that it’s a highly addictive game which will take hours out of your life and never give you back. Ads will certainly disturb you time after time so better get rid of them via in-app purchases.

The app is available for free in the App Store. So make sure you check it out today!

Pros: addictive gameplay; 4 single player and 1 multiplayer mode; challenge your friends; free.

Cons: none.
